Awards and recognition

QFHSA offers many awards and ways to recognize outstanding people and projects.

 THE PAT LEWIS PEACE PRIZE

 

 

 

In 1997 Patricia Lewis, herself a past Buzzell and Paterson Award winner, created the Lewis Peace Prize (named in honour of her father-in-law)and meant to recognize an individual or group who contributes to a safe and peaceful school or community.

 

 

 

 the Leslie N. Buzzell Award

 

 

In 1950 the Federation inaugurated a special award for outstanding service at the provincial level and for furthering the aims of Home and School in general. It was named after its donor, the former honorary president of the Federation, the late Leslie N. Buzzell

 

 

 THE GORDON PATERSON AWARD

 

 

In 1973, thanks to the initiative and generosity of past president Doreen Richter, a new award was created to recognize an outstanding educator who had given long service to Quebec education and had encouraged the participation of parents. It was named after the first president of the Quebec Federation, Gordon Paterson

 

 

 the Pat Lewis Humanitarian Award

 

 

This award was begun in 2006 by Pat’s daughters, Sharon and Ruth, in memory of their mother who passed away in August 2002. Pat would have been thrilled with what schools and young people are doing today to make our world a better place. The criteria for this Award states that it is for an individual, or group, at the elementary school level, who has shown outstanding efforts towards a humanitarian cause.

 

 

 

UnSung Hero Awards

 

 

These awards recognize an in school volunteer’s valuable involvement in everyday school life, often behind the scenes.

 

 

The Golden Torch Awards

 

These awards are intended to recognize a Home and School executive or committee member who has demonstrated active leadership, organizational skills and has encouraged the participation of all volunteers. Their dedication merits recognition locally and provincially.

 

 

MEMBERSHIP PRIZES

 

 

Membership Prizes are given in the following categories:

·      Schools with the HIGHEST MEMBERSHIP,

                        High School and Elementary

·      Schools with the MOST IMPROVED MEMBERSHIP

 

 

NEWSLETTER PRIZES

 

Prizes are given to the best over all Home and School Newsletters based on a variety of criteria.
